Privacy policy

Every Receipt is made by an independent developer in Canada. This policy explains what the app keeps, what leaves your phone, and why. Questions: hello@everyreceipt.app.

The short version

Your receipts, photos and budgets stay on your phone. To read a receipt, its photo is sent once, encrypted, to be read, and it is not kept. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no bank connections.

What stays on your phone

Everything you add: receipts, photos, items, budgets, categories, folders, tags, notes and settings. We do not have a copy, and there is no account on our side.

A backup is a file you make yourself and save where you choose (for example in Files or iCloud Drive). We never receive it.

What leaves your phone, and why

Reading a receipt. The photo, with the app's reading instructions, is sent over an encrypted connection to our reading server, which passes it to an AI reading service. We only use reading services that keep no copy of the photo and do not use it to train their models. The reading comes straight back to your phone. Our server does not store the photo or the reading.

Recognising products. To compare prices between stores, item names (text only) are sent the same way to be matched to a plain product name, for example "eggs".

What our server keeps. A random install code made by the app, a random receipt code, the kind of request and when it was made. These count the reads in your plan and stop misuse. They are not linked to your name, email or Apple ID, and they are deleted automatically after 13 months.

Exchange rates. For receipts in other currencies, the app downloads daily exchange rates from a public exchange-rate service. Only dates are requested; nothing about you or your receipts is sent.

Subscriptions. Purchases are made through Apple. A subscription service we use receives an anonymous app user code and your plan's status so the app can unlock it. We never see your payment details.

Email. If you write to us, we see your email address and message, and use them only to reply.

How your data is protected

Everything sent from the app travels over encrypted connections. Receipts on your phone are protected by your iPhone's own encryption and passcode. Our server stores no photos, readings, names or contact details.

What we never do

No advertising, no analytics or tracking, no selling or sharing of your data, and no connection to banks or cards.

Permissions the app asks for

Camera, to photograph receipts. Photos, to pick receipt photos and show which ones you already added. Notifications, for the optional daily reminder, which is made on your phone. You can turn each off in your iPhone's Settings.

Deleting your data

Delete a receipt in the app; it stays in Recently deleted for 30 days, then it is removed. Deleting the app removes everything on your phone. The usage records on our server are deleted automatically after 13 months.

Children

Every Receipt is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
